America's Stonehenge - Various Pieces
I took these various photos as we walked around the site.
Undetermined Structure

As its name indicates, they have no idea what this is for, although it does have a large drain under there. I just thought it looked cool.
The Mensal Stone

This big ol' slab of bedrock is estimated to weigh in at 6 to 8 tons. It was lifted at one end to make a kind of table. The three modern drill marks are thought to date from when the place was quarried in the 1800s. Goodwin added the upper 12-18 inches of the wall in the 1930s. Why? I have no idea...
The Large Wall, the Pathway to the Oracle Chamber, and Steve

Once again, the top chunk of this wall is thought to have been added by Goodwin. And again, no clue why. BloopWatch Correspondent Steve "iyu" Domanski is standing next to it for size comparison. Behind him, a pathway which may once have been multiple chambers leads towards the famous Oracle Chamber.
The Equinox Sunrise Stone

This was actually the last stone we paused and looked at, but I've decided to include it here. At sunrise on the Vernal and Autmunal Equinoxes, the sun rises directly over this stone if viewed from the central point of the site. There are other standing stones around the site which line up with sunrises and sunsets on various ays of astronomical meaning, as well as holidays of the Pagan calendar such as May 1 and November 1. These stones are why it is theorized that the site was built by Celtic influences, as well as why it has been renamed America's Stonehenge.
