There's an interview with Toren Atkinson of Darkest of the Hillside Thickets over at Shoggoth.net.

Darkest of the Hillside Thickets will be performing live on Saturday, October 29, along with the Spitfires and the Manvils at the UBC Pit Pub. Woo!

I love when an email arrives simply saying, "If you are looking for the Old Ones, you should visit this page. I think I'll just let it speak for itself.

Got a note from Alex of Philosopher (a Lovecraftian Death Metal Band), and he asked me to post the following:
"The German Lovecraft-Fanatics PHILOSOPHER just released their debut "Thoughts" via RUPTURED SILENCE Records. The partly creeping/partly fast Old School Death Metal (in the vein of mid-90s DEATH or MORBID ANGEL, early NILE) focusses on strong composition and an extreme level of arrangement skills.

After their Demo "What dwells beyond" (Sold over 500 times) they even took a step further by recording the album at the WORLDSEND Studios near Trier, Germany. Live available is a limited Copy of their Videoclip "Dreamside" (ltd. to 100 Copies).

Visit the band's Homepage: www.philosopher-music.de"

A Shadow Over Innsmouth radio play will be premiering on Corridors of Evil, live from Borderlands Books.

Heheheh. There are some audio files on Yog-Sothoth.com of a play-through of Unseen Masters. I enjoyed this group's audio of the Corbitt House, so I imagine I'll be giving this a listen.

Dino Manzella has added a "Modern Zombie Audio Drama" link to Shoggoth.net called The Wonder Fears. I need to give this a listen...

Busy week for audio news. There's a CD called Strange Aeons, a "compilation of music and poetry inspired and influenced by H.P. Lovecraft and the ever expanding Cthulhu Mythos." sounds neat! I may need to get myself a copy.

Computer Games

The XBox version of Dark Corners of the Earth is out as of today. And we have it, and...oh Jeez is it good. Well worth the wait, methinks. Creeepy stuff, and an oddly familiar storyline... ;)

The latest word on Dark Corners of the Earth? November 1. Let's all cross our fingers...

The online game Lovecraft Country Online has gone beta. Go give it a try!

According to our agent at E3, Dark Corners is now slated for Fall 2005. More details when we get them.

The official release date of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is set for June 1 for the PC, with an XBox version to follow. I will believe it when I hold a copy in my sweaty lil hands.

GameCorner has a nice article about Dark Corners, including an interview with Chris Gray, producer and lead designer for the game.

Always nice to see a sign of life. Check out this interview with Dennis Cheng, the producer of Dark Corners for Bethesda.

Finally! Some news on Dark Corners of the Earth. Since Headfirst Productions hadn't updated their webpage since February, I was getting a little nervous. But now, it seems, Bethesda Softworks will be publishing it for PC and XBox. Sadly, they've pushed the release date to 1st quarter 2004. The whole story is over on Game Spy.

Shoggoth.net has an announcement regarding a search for coders for a Lovecraftian online game. Look at the details here. Yog-Sothoth.com has a similar article.

Seattle, WA based Flying Lab Software has officially shelved their idea for a game they were developing based on the Delta Green, the modern-day setting for Call of Cthulhu from Pagan Publishing. They have indicated that this is due to lack of a publisher. If there are any new developments, we will announce them here.

The United Kingdom's Headfirst Productions are working on a PC game set in the 1920s called Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. This game looks really amazing to me, and I look forward to its Summer 2003 release date. They have also announced a follow-up entitled Call of Cthulhu: Tainted Legacy, set in the modern era and scheduled for a tentative late 2004 release on Playstation 2.

Movies

I don't normally include reviews here, but, well, I finally got to see the HPL Historical Society's The Call of Cthulhu movie. It's really amazing, and I can't recommend it enough, and that's all there is to it. Buy it. I can almost guarantee you won't be sorry if you do.

So, I'm hearing about a movie due out in 2006 called just Cthulhu that is rumored to follow the plot of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and to feature Tori Spelling. Anyone have any info on this?

This article has info on an upcoming DVD release of From Beyond...yes, the Stuart Gordon one, with 19-minutes of restored material. The Miskatonic Acid Test is now in production, and they're seeking cast members. Check out the info at their website.

There's something coming called LovecraCked from BiFF JUGGERNAUT productions. Their synopsis of the film follows:
With Lovecraft's great influence on horror fiction, it would seem inevitable that a documentary film would someday be made that would fully bring to light the life of this 20th century master of the macabre...
This is NOT that film.
Not since "Fahrenheit 9/11" has one movie generated more controversy! Prepare yourself for an expose' like no other - where quality investigative journalism is equaled only by the likes of FOX news!
Bats will fly! Pants will be lost! Aliens will invade! Typewriters will be thrown! Wardrobes will be shredded! And makeshift dummies will be dropped from extremely unsafe heights!
"LovecraCked"
The truth is out there...
we're just not entirely sure where.

The second volume of the HPL Collection DVD's will soon be available. This volume includes "Rough Magik", Bob Fugger's "The Terrible Old Man" and "From Beyond", and music videos from Darkest of the Hillside Thickets.

Apparently, Stuart Gordon is kicking around an idea called House of Re-Animator - yes, the 4th film in the series. In an interview with Bloody-Disgusting.com, Gordon said it would be "a political satire that should certain people be back in office, then I would do it. I hope I do not have to go ahead with it, but if I do, it would be about V.P. Cheney passing from a heart attack and since he basically runs everything, Dr. West is called in to bring him back. I would only go on with this in the event of re-election as otherwise it would be old news..." Well, now it seems like he'll have the chance...

Ivan Zuccon's Unknown Beyond is now available on DVD from LEO Films.

The good folks at the H.P.L. Historical Society have posted an amazing trailer for their blac kand white, silent film "The Call of Cthulhu." Check it out here.

Guillermo Del Toro has turned down several comic-book-based film projects to move on to his ghost movie, Pan's Labyrinth. He reports that, after P.L., he'll be moving on to "my next big film, almost back to back. That project will either be Hellboy 2 or At the Mountains of Madness." I figure we win, either way, but I'd prefer Mountains, obviously.

Fangoria.com reports that Echo Bridge Entertainment has acquired the rights to Mortuary, which s filming this summer for a winter 2005 release. We look forward to hearing casting choices.

Fangoria.com has an article with some quotes by screenwriter Adam Gierasch about his film Mortuary, which he describes as being not a zombie movie. "There are zombies in it, but it's based more on the Cthulhu Mythos." The story, about a family that buys a mortuary in Arkham, is not supposed to be based on any specific story, but just to be a Lovecraftian horror tale. Read the article here.

Thanks, Drew!

Another Cthulhoid webcomic - The Unspeakable Vault of Doom.

BloopWatch Correspondent Drew Clark spotted a Cthulhu reference in Sluggy Freelance. Check out this strip.

I want to give a very special thanks to my good friend Randy Milholland, who writes the comic Something Positive. Not only does Cthulhu show up at regular intervals in his comic, but he recently mentioned BloopWatch.org on his webpage, and our traffic increased substantially. Randy, I really appreciate it.

BloopWatch Correspondent Brom Clancy turned us on to a fairly amusing strip called The Call of Whatever. It deals with Lovecraftian themes constantly, and it has some really funny stuff. I especially enjoy their adoption of a Hound of Tindalos.
